About Brede Logic

A technology company shaped by breadth of curiosity and depth of craft — based in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The company

Brede Logic is a technology company headquartered in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. "Brede" is the Dutch word for "broad" — chosen to reflect a core belief: the most useful solutions emerge when you refuse to stay in a single lane.

We build software and technology solutions that draw on domains like veterinary medicine, music, the visual arts, the culinary world, and more. The company is proudly Canadian, rooted in one of the most naturally beautiful places in the country, and committed to building things that are both functional and well-crafted.

Our tagline — Broad thinking, deep solutions — is not marketing copy. It is a working philosophy. Every solution we release reflects both dimensions: an expansive view of the problem space, and an uncompromising depth of implementation.

The founder

Steve Elgersma

Steve Elgersma

Founder & Principal Developer

With a degree in Computing and Information Science from the University of Guelph (1995) and more than 30 years as a systems and software engineer, Steve has spent much of his career at leading academic institutions — including the Computer Science department at Princeton University and the Electrical and Computer Engineering department and Computing Services at Carnegie Mellon University. He was there at the beginning of the web: running the CERN server and building what became the University of Guelph's first website.

His interests have always extended well beyond software. An accomplished musician who plays keyboards live and maintains a personal electronic music studio, Steve draws on a genuinely wide range of domains — photography, music, veterinary medicine, the culinary arts — when approaching a problem. That breadth is reflected in the name: brede is the Dutch word for broad, a nod to his heritage and the company's founding philosophy. His wife, Dr. Michelle Elgersma, is an accomplished veterinarian whose practice provided the inspiration behind both RoamVet and Kalmeren.
